Case Studies
Rail Decarbonisation FOAK2 Zero emission range extender
UK rail must decarbonise by 2040 and as only 40% of the network is electrified many diesel passenger and freight trains require zero emission re-tractioning

Steamology successfully delivered a 100kW ‘range extender’ demonstrator within the Vivarail power raft design to re-traction the Class 230 London Underground rolling stock.
Rail Decarbonisation FOAK 2020 Zero emission Rail Freight Power
Freight rail locomotives are typically high power 2-3MW diesel electric. The rail freight industry faces the challenge of removing diesel for the UK network by 2040. Typically rail assets have a life longer than 40 years so could become ‘Stranded Asset's if not re-tractioned with zero emission power.
Steamology high power turbines provide a drop in replacement power unit with the higher energy density, cost effectiveness, life with lower life cycle costs than battery and fuel cell alternatives
SIF SBRI Phase 1 - Zero Emission Diesel Engine Replacement Drive Train
UK rail must decarbonise by 2040 and as only 40% of the network is electrified many diesel passenger and freight trains require zero emission re-tractioning

Steamology successfully delivered a 100kW ‘range extender’ demonstrator within the Vivarail power raft design to re-traction the Class 230 London Underground rolling stock.
Energy Catalyst 7
Steamology are working with Strathmore University Sustainable Energy Research Centre (SERC) in Nairobi, Kenya, to design, develop and deliver a 25kW off grid power generation and energy storage demonstrator.

A 24 month programme exploring clean RE storage in developing rural off grid environment with a gender equality and socially inclusive approach to system commercial model, installation, training and maintenance.
